Why Quinta da Ria Works So Well
A golf holiday is a wonderful opportunity to play somewhere new, enjoy better weather and spend a few days away from everyday life. But for golfers who also want to come home understanding and playing their game better, a golf development holiday offers something more.
Rather than simply playing a different course each day, a development holiday gives you time to understand your own game, recognise the areas that can make the biggest difference and then put that learning into practice on the golf course.
That combination of development, play and time to enjoy the holiday is exactly why Quinta da Ria in Portugal’s Eastern Algarve works so well for a 1st Tee Treks week.
Understanding the Difference
What Is a Golf Development Holiday?
A golf development holiday combines the enjoyment of a golf trip with structured opportunities to understand and improve your own game.
Instead, we look at how you actually play: your usual ball flight, the shots you trust, the patterns that tend to cost you shots and the decisions that can help you play more effectively. We then tailor the tuition to you as an individual to help you develop.
You then have the opportunity to take that learning straight onto the golf course, put it into practice and continue developing your understanding as the week progresses.

Why Quinta da Ria?
Portugal has long been a favourite destination for golfers, with excellent courses, a warm climate and straightforward travel from the UK.
Quinta da Ria in the Eastern Algarve works particularly well for a development holiday because the golf courses and facilities are located within the resort, allowing a little extra time to concentrate on your game, enjoy your golf and relax.
With two 18-hole courses on site — Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima — you also have the opportunity to experience different golfing challenges, while developing your game through tuition and masterclasses.
From Practice to Play
Development That Continues on the Course
During the holiday, your tuition and masterclasses give you the opportunity to work on the areas of your game that will make the greatest difference. Time on the golf course then allows that development to continue in a real playing environment.
As the holiday progresses, we continue to develop different areas of your game through range and short game sessions, masterclasses and purposeful time on the course, building on what we learn about you and your golf along the way.
Golf Development for You
Do I Need to Be a Good Golfer?
Not at all. Our golf development holidays are designed for golfers with different levels of experience and different areas of their game that they would like to develop.
One golfer may be looking for more consistency, another may want to improve a particular area of their game, while a more experienced player may be looking to refine their game and take their ability to the next level.
You do not all need to be working on the same thing. What matters is that you enjoy your golf and would like the opportunity to develop your game while enjoying a fantastic golf holiday.
Friendly From the Start
Can I Come on My Own?
Absolutely. Some guests join us with friends, while others come on their own, and both work equally well.
Ben and Loretta are a husband-and-wife team and are with you throughout the holiday, helping to create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere from the moment everyone arrives.
Because everyone is sharing the same golf development experience, playing together and spending time at the resort, the group quickly becomes sociable.
Meals, golf, practice time and evening activities over a glass of wine provide many opportunities to get to know the other golfers in your group.
Develop • Play • Relax • Enjoy
Golf Development in a Great Setting
The focus of the holiday is very much on your golf development, but the setting is an important part of the experience too.
With the golf courses, practice facilities and resort all in one place, everything works naturally around the golf, with meals, drinks and time together becoming part of the overall holiday.
It creates a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere around what is, at heart, a very purposeful few days of golf development.
Serious about your golf, but still very much a holiday.
